Galaxy - Mag. 15.4 - IC4278

Given the lovely weather, I decided to take a look at the NED catalog and compare it with my M51 image and I discovered a 15.4 mag. galaxy on my M51 image.  It is just a smudge but it is light coming from a 15.4 mag. galaxy.  Given that we are talking Portland Downtown sky, it is not too bad.  :)

Enjoy it!

Thanks a lot Barry!

I looked at the distance for IC 4278 and I could not find any information. I only came across a wild guess in a forum based on apparent diameter, magnitude. The guess was 650 MLY. The problem is that I think they have not measured the redshift, so without that information, you don't know the distance.

Very cool. Did you determine the distance to IC4278? One of these days when (and if) it ever stops raining, I would like to try to image some really distant and faint galaxies from a dark site......just for the fun of it. They won't make great pictures, but still cool to think you are 'seeing' something hundreds of millions of light years distant. I like your image....very natural looking!
