IC 1396, from my driveway:
Nothing ventured nothing gained.....I guess.   Pretty frustrating to end up with this extremely poor effort, when I don't get that many opportunities.  I definitely need to figure out what is wrong with my Dec axis guiding.   It was completely unacceptable.....roaming all over the map.   To make matters worse, my scope was completely out of collimation, and trying to correct it on the fly was not successful.  Oh, and then there was wind and high wispy clouds before the sky began to turn milky.

I ended up capturing 22 frames at 4 minutes per frame, but had to discard four of them....leaving me only an hour and 12 minutes of data.  Not nearly enough on this subject.  Sob!  Sniff!

No, I wish I could lie and say I did, but it was just "Precise Goto". IC1396 go. Alderamin, go. Center Alderamin and go. There it was. I had no idea if I was even close. You can see that the data has been pushed to the limit and well beyond. Grainy, poor color, poor detail, yada yada yada.

I need to overhaul the CG5. Dec tracking is horrible and getting worse. Funny though, in one frame the Dec graph went off the chart and the frame looked good anyway. Whats up with that?

WOW Barr! This is an extremely faint target and yes, needs loads of time, even from a dark sky, but overall I think you got it pretty well. I wouldn't have expected you to even get this much in only an hour from a Bortle 5 location. I suppose it's looking into some of the darkest parts of your sky, so that helped I'm sure.

I know you likely couldn't even see this in your framing frames, so kudos to you for the great framing of the elephant trunk and the dust lane next to it. Did you use the star pattern to get the framing right?
