More rain.........wow, will it never clear up? It's been almost 2 months.
On this sketch, I would give myself an "A" for effort, but "C-" for the result. I could not find a photo with enough close up detail on the telescope structure.
The Keck 1 (in it's enclosure), one of the twin ten meter (32 feet) telescopes near the summit of 13,700 foot Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Surpassed by a telescope with a 10.4 meter mirror, in the Canery Islands. The twin Kecks are also surpassed in total mirror area by the VLT's (Very Large Telescope) four 8.2 meter scopes in northern Chile.
It was announced in July 2009, that Cal-Tech, the Univ. of Calif, and a group of Canadian universities, will build a 30 meter giant telescope on Mauna Kea. At the same time, a European group has announced their intention to build a 100 meter scope......on a site yet to be selected.
