Last night was pretty much of a bust. I was trying to complete a tour of Orion with an image of M78. (I guess I could try for the horsehead, but I don't think my equipment is up to it) M78 proved to be difficult. I was having my usual tracking and exposure problems....and fighting 26 degree temps. All I ended up getting was the main body of the nebula with almost no detail....and little if any of the surrounding nebulosity. I should probably have used my f13 scope instead of my f4, for a little more scale. That might have helped (in addition to the extra 24mm of aperture) but not sure. At any rate here is the result:
Saturday, 1/31/09: Under the weather today....mild fever, sore throat, etc. Sorted through my M78 data to see if I could improve on my previous image. Not much improved, but you can just barely make out traces of nebulosity around the main nebula.
